How do greek myths reflect their culture specifically?

Often times people ask how and why communities create mythologies. People use myths to explain aspects of the communities that create them. Based off this what is a good example of greek myth that reflects an aspect of the value system of the Archaic Greek world and explain how it does so. Thank you.

The Archaic period is the time period in which Homer was supposed to have composed his poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey.

I would use the Odyssey as my example — it has many , many examples of the importance of Xenia (the concept of guest/host hospitality). The suitors violated the bounds of hospitality and so must die. The Cyclops fails as a host and thus is not protected from the revenge of Odysseus and his crew. Scenes at the courts of Pylos, Sparta and the Phaikians brim with ritual about how a guest and host should interact with each other.
