Memex to Share Shop Floor to Top Floor Information at Canadian Tooling & Machining Event
The Canadian Tooling & Machining Association is holding a Plant Tour & Dinner Meeting on Thursday, May 20, 2010. The Tour starts promptly at 4:00 pm followed by Cocktails/Dinner at 5:30 pm. To reserve space CTMA should be contacted at (519) 653-7265.
The plant tour will be held at HĒROUX DEVTEK and hosted by Jack Curley. The plant tour is located at 665 Highland Road W. Kitchener, Ontario. The tour of this aerospace parts manufacturing company, the leader in its field, has the latest equipment and processes. Héroux Devtek – Kitchener manufactures landing gear and aerospace structural components. Major customers include Boeing, Goodrich Aerospace, Bombardier, Messier Dowty, Embraer and Airbus (notably several components for the new Airbus A380 800 passenger jet).
Héroux Devtek has over 45 machines in its Kitchener facility including seven brand new SNK 5-axis milling machines used for the major components of the Boeing 787 and Airbus A320 programs. Héroux Devtek has a corporate mandate to track Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) in all of its plants and all of its machines in North America. This tour will highlight Héroux Devtek’s world-leading capabilities, with demonstrations of real-time machine monitoring and control with OEE+DNC, and the interconnection of these tools with the corporate network.
The dinner will be held at the Holiday Inn, Kitchener, Ontario Salon C at 5:30 pm. The address is 30 Fairway Road S., Kitchener, Ontario. David McPhail and John Rattray of Memex Automation Inc. will be the guest speakers and discuss “Shop Floor to Top Floor Information…in Real-Time.” This presentation, Automate the Automation – Machine Monitoring & Control, OEE+DNC will begin at 7:30pm.
There is a technological shift going on out on the shop floor as manufacturing machines are finally being integrated into the corporate IT network via Ethernet connections. This revolution allows machines to communicate directly with corporate information systems and is generating big benefits for companies by increasing their efficiency of operations. Linking machines directly to the corporate network can yield much valuable information about actual shop floor operations, as demonstrated during the plant tour at Héroux Devtek. This presentation will show how this breakthrough approach to managing the shop floor can yield significant gains in productivity.
