Why doesn’t my vacuum cleaner have any suction in the little side hose?

You know…the extra little hose you can pull off to vacuum corners or under sofa cushions….

The darned thing doesn’t have any suction. What’s up? Anybody have any ideas?

This happens to me on occasion and it’s just a simple blockage, and doesn’t require drastic action such as taking your vacuum apart, or to bits.

All I do is unplug the vacuum, and look down the hose. Since you were questioning what the problem could be, then the blockage is further down. The next thing I do is take an opened wire hanger and gently feel about to see how far down the blockage is. Sometimes it’s about a foot down and you can get away with “hooking” the blockage and then turning the open end of the hose down and shaking it and repeat until it falls out. If it’s truly stuck, I just unscrew the hose at the base, remove it and push the blockage out, and while the hose is off, check to see if there is build up at, or near the area where the hose is attached.
