Help with cheap books or ideas for Classical Homeschooling?
Ok, so I am going to try a Classical approach next year. I have decided to begin with the second year (Mideval to Early Rennaisance) because we have studied plants and animals for the last couple years in the science curriculum we have used and my son and I are both ready to move on. I have bought TONS for this first year. I have the Story of the World and the Activity book, I have First Lang. Lessons for Grammar, I have books on history, science, and literature. I have a little for math, but really want to stay away from a curriculum this year and just focus on reviewing and strengthening so I may get some topic driven books for that, but I still need writing, spelling, and some of the books for language arts that are recommended. Any ideas on what I can use, other than what is in Well Trained Mind or where I can find things cheaper or any advice would be great! I feel like I am $5 and $10 myself into the poor house, and I mean what if it just doesn’t work for us? HELP!!!!!!!
We have used the classical method, and combine it with a unschooling philosophy; many think they do not mix, but it works.
Here is a web site that is all about classical home schooling, it also contains a 1000 book list, (grouped in grade levels), and many links.
The book list I printed off; over the years we have bought many, but we started by using the library, and the inter-library program.

For writing I would recommend Write Shop

A bit more pricey at $ 80.00, but it can be a 1,2 or 3 year program depending on how you would like to use it.
The pages are reproducible, so you can always resell it if needed.
For grammar; Applications of grammar, book 1 through 6 starting at either the 6Th, or 7Th grade.
Additional creative writing; The Exiting World of Creative Writing
Spelling; Building Spelling Skills Book 1 and up.
All three are by Christina Liberty Press.
